Rebecca: School is starting in about week and I hope my son can sit in school and do his work. He talks a lot and in school you have to be quiet, I hope that want be a problem. Also when other people who don't understand ADHD are around I worry because they may think he has no home training, which is not true at all. If you have never had n ADHD child you will never understand the whole disorder. |

Keep telling the child he or she is doing a good job no matter how long it takes to teach them. Reward them with stickers or food. Take breaks when teaching them. Any other comments? Rebecca: Make sure you treat your child like any other child so they will know they are no different and are loved just as much as other kids. Rebecca helped me understand more about what ADHD is all about. I can certainly see what she is saying, that it is hard to understand the disorder unless you have a child with ADHD. Certainly many of us can relate to trying to get a child's attention and the frustrations that may cause, but imagine if that is the "norm" for the child? Remember ADHD is not a result of bad parenting, it is a true disorder and the child and family should be treated with the utmost respect. |
